At AK, one of our areas of expertise is the relocation of warehouse operations. This was the case for a prominent medical device company previously headquartered in Houston, Texas, as they were in the process of relocating its operations to Bloomington, Minn. This company contacted AK Senior Design Specialist Jerry Fredrickson to help them with this process by coordinating the logistics of the relocation, consulting on the material that best-fit the application, and managing the installation.
The first project was to section off a portion of their new warehouse for storage of valuable, classified products. This area needed to be secure and aesthetically pleasing. Jerry designed, supplied, and provided installation for a security enclosure with the following specifications and features:
- Three-sided (14′ x 22′ x 14′) at 10′ high
- Two 96″ sliding doors equipped with built-in security locks
- White powder coat paint
- One-year warranty
- Professional-installed
Next, they needed to set up some industrial shelving to hand stack large amounts of small medical parts. These units needed to be industrial grade, ascetically pleasing, and 12′ tall. Jerry knew that our Tennsco Z-Line shelving was a perfect fit. It offered a nice accent blue color tone along with its industrial storage capacity and the product had a favorable lead time from the factory. Another advantage that AK afforded the client was our in-stock inventory of Tennsco shelving for any replacement or extra components that they may need. Jerry designed, supplied, and provided installation for this Tennsco industrial steel shelving application as well.

The final piece to this relocation was to supply custom workbenches for them that were customizable for each employee. With a lot of time spent at these workstations, his client wanted these to be as comfortable as possible for their employees. He equipped them with custom height options and also adjustable shelf levels for each station. These workstations were also custom painted to match the accent blue of the industrial shelving system we provided.
