AK Material Handling Systems Gives Back

Working steadily behind the scenes of AK Material Handling Systems is a powerhouse of devoted team members committed to giving back and making a difference in their local communities. 

The Give Back Crew (GBC) is a nonprofit organization powered by the employees of AKMHS. Since its founding in 2011, GBC members have pooled their time, energy, and resources each year to support local charities and good causes through various sponsorships and volunteer opportunities. 

The GBC primarily focuses its efforts in and around Maple Grove, MN, and throughout the Greater Twin Cities landscape. However, its reach extends to the Pocono Mountains and all the way to sunny Florida beaches, thanks to a remarkable team of remote employees.

Unlike most corporations that may participate in one, maybe two, charity events annually, the GBC prioritizes giving back all year round. For AK and the GBC, giving isn’t limited to a season or a time of year. We regularly partner with numerous organizations and seek to grow our charity partnerships yearly.

New volunteer opportunities always present themselves, but we’ve found that some events are worth participating in every chance we get. Some of the primary causes we’ve shown up for time and time again include the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Salvation Army’s bell ringing, food and Toys for Tots drives, United Way’s Day of Caring, and Second Harvest Heartland’s Pack to the Max Day. 

These causes hit close to home for some of our team members and are all examples of local charities that operate in our local sphere. Another example of a local annual opportunity is the Maple Grove Days parade. We love to be present in our community and act as a force of good to those around us.

As a company, AKMHS has sponsored numerous charity events, including the Magnus & Friends Festival and the DES 1st Annual Cornhole Tournament. We sponsored a Cauzzle puzzle on behalf of the Potato Head Project and are currently season-long sponsors for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Season.

Finally, AK and our GBC team band together to fundraise for important causes through various events and donation opportunities. Our team attended the Reach For Ralph annual fundraiser, a Pizza Ranch fundraiser for the Potato Head Project, Second Harvest Heartland’s Dish Gala, and the 6th Annual Golf Fundraiser for the MN Firefighters Foundation.

Internally, we host fundraising opportunities like Games for Charity, where winnings go directly to the winning party’s charity of choice. We collectively raise funds for the Salvation Army food drive and family sponsorship over the holidays.
