First, let’s review the terminology used in evaluating high-density pallet rack systems.
- Selectivity – The ability to access any given pallet in a system. In other words, if you have to move another pallet to reach the one you want, you do not have 100% selectivity. Single Deep Selective rack has 100% selectivity.
- Utilization – This is the ratio of actual pallets stored by the total number of spaces allowed to store the product.
- Floor Density – calculating storage percentage based on square footage alone
- Cubic Density – calculating storage percentage in cubic feet
- LIFO – Last in, First Out
- FIFO – First in, First Out
- Average Lot Size – The average number of pallets per SKU
Next, let’s list the types of high-density pallet rack systems (non-automated) and the ranges of the number of pallets deep that they can store
- Double Deep Selective (2 deep)
- VNA Selective Pallet Rack (single deep)
- Pushback Pallet Rack (2 deep to 6 deep)
- Pallet Flow Rack (2 deep to 20+)
- Drive-in Rack (2 deep to 12+ deep)
