Hello and welcome to the first edition of “Making Green on the Green” by Al Boston
Let me begin with a little bit about myself.
Starting with a degree in business and graduate work in distribution, I served at an internship with Kraft Foods and went on to work in distribution management in Chicago IL, and Minneapolis MN. Using my training and background in distribution, I applied my knowledge in the layout and design of warehouse and distribution centers with one distributor in the 1980’s and then founded A&K Equipment Company in 1988 (now known as AK Material Handling Systems). The company has now grown to include additional divisions: WPRP Wholesale Pallet Rack Products, Pallet Rack Now, and Shelf-Clips.com.
I’m also an author, speaker, and MHEDA board member. I have helped the material handling industry meet the demands of the industry to be safer and more effective at storage and handling a wide range of products. Over the past 20 + years, I have trained and mentored many industry professionals to reach a high level of professionalism in the Material Handling Equipment Industry. Making Green on the Green
I have been asked to say a few words about how I would relate to playing the game of golf to running a business. The first comparison to being successful is to have a plan. Whether playing golf or running a material handling distributor, your results will depend on how well you have spent your time studying “the game” and developing a detailed plan on how to proceed. Every successful golfer knows all of the rules of golf and has studied the game by reading books and publications. The successful golfer gets lessons from a PGA pro and studies videos of their swing and compares it to great golf swings that produce top results. If you study golf and have a professional as a mentor for your recreation, I have one question…
How are you planning your business?
