A Safety Minute with Al
In the current fast-paced world of “do more with fewer people“, remember the saying “if you’re in a hurry slow down” regarding pallet rack safety. I don’t mean to slow down the productivity but make sure that you are inspecting your pallet rack on a regular basis to check for damaged parts that need repair or replacement. A pallet rack is a structural system much like a bridge. All of the lacing channels in the uprights (frames) are doing their part to keep the columns in plumb alignment to allow the beams to be in a level alignment. If damage or removal of critical beam levels is allowed to take place, it can have a cumulative effect and the last hit causes the collapse or failure. To prevent the problem, ensure you regularly inspect your pallet rack for damage and unload the area to replace the damaged parts before reloading. If you have any questions consult a qualified professional.
